If you are familiar with the hit adult cartoon series “Rick and Morty” or were born before 1995, chances are you remember the Szechuan sauce. Well, now it might be making a comeback.
It was originally created as a way to promote Disney’s new-at-the-time film Mulan, but fans of Rick and Morty have been clamoring for it to return ever since an April 1 episode of the show made mention of it. At the time, McDonald’s brought up that it could possibly make a return to stores. “We never say never, because when our customers speak, we listen,” a spokesperson said. “And to paraphrase some of our most enthusiastic fans, our sauce is so good that it would be worth waiting nine seasons or 97 years for.”
Since April, however, there hadn’t been any news on the Szechuan sauce front until this weekend. Speaking on a panel at San Diego Comic-Con, show creator Justin Roiland told fans that McDonald’s had promised to send him a jug of the sauce and that he would be filming himself and co-creator Dan Harmon trying it.
While this doesn’t mean the sauce is coming back for everyone, it does mean at least someone at McDonald’s has a recipe and the ability to make the internet’s dreams come true.
