Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg might be the world’s most powerful men when it comes to the technology of the present and the future, but they don’t always see eye to eye.
The latest feud between the two is over their beliefs on the future of artificial intelligence. Musk believes that AI could pose a “fundamental risk to the existence of human civilization.”
“I have exposure to the very cutting edge AI, and I think people should be really concerned about it.” Musk said at the National Governors Association summer meeting earlier in July. “I keep sounding the alarm bell, but until people see robots going down the street killing people, they don’t know how to react, because it seems so ethereal.”
Zuckerberg, however, does not agree with Musk’s evaluation. “I have pretty strong opinions on this. I am optimistic,” Zuckerberg said. “And I think people who are naysayers and try to drum up these doomsday scenarios — I just, I don’t understand it. It’s really negative and in some ways I actually think it is pretty irresponsible.”
As two of the leading voices in the tech world, it will be interesting to see how their opinions changes the future of AI.
